Weekend Getaway – Twin Falls Resort State Park

Sometimes you need a change of scenery, I think we are all at that point in our lives right now. My husband and I made a short drive south this weekend for a quick trip to Twin Falls Resort State Park located in Wyoming County, West Virginia. The State Park is about ninety minutes from our home and it’s a Park that we hadn’t been to in the past.

We arrived on Friday evening and while we were initially going to stay in a cabin we decided to change our stay to the Main Lodge. It was going to be a rainy weekend so we weren’t going to get to take advantage of the outdoor spaces that the cabin would have afforded.

The Main Lodge Lobby was added in 2011 as were 27 additional rooms, an indoor pool and a fitness center. The Lodge also has a delightful on-site restaurant Twin Falls Restaurant. The State Park offers miles of hiking trails, an 18 hole golf course and a neat Pioneer Farm.

During a brief lull in the rain on Saturday we were able to take two beautiful hikes. While winter may not be thought of as a hikers dream, it’s a beautiful way to get out among nature and breathe some fresh air. The temperature was in the low 50s and with layers it was quite enjoyable.

We hiked both the Falls Trail and Buck Run Trail. Both trails had ample parking at the trail head.

Falls Trail is a beautiful trail along the Black Fork of Cabin Creek. You have views of Black Fork along the trail as well as Black Fork Falls and Marsh Fork Falls. Due to the rain the Creek was running very high and made both Falls even more amazing!

The trail terrain can be slippery and due to the heavy rains boots were definitely required. Standing water and mud was plentiful. Along the trail were many rock outcroppings and mountain laurels. I’m sure the trail is gorgeous during the summer when the laurels are in full bloom.

Our meals at Twin Falls Restaurant were all delicious. The food was fresh and prepared to order. I can’t say enough about my “Old Fashioned Breakfast” on Saturday morning. So filling I didn’t even eat lunch! The Restaurant featured Homer Laughlin China dinnerware which is always nice to see.

While our stay was short, it was definitely enjoyable. The staff at the Lodge as well as the Restaurant were all attentive. Due to current COVID restrictions housekeeping wasn’t available during our stay but fresh linens were delivered to our room. Protocols including the wearing of masks were in place and were well followed by both staff and Lodge patrons. Physical distancing signage was abundant throughout the Lodge and tables were well spaced in the Restaurant.
